Stone Sculptor

Tel: 905-878-3460
Email: davidsolace@ymail.com
Location: Studio 5

The relationship between Solace and his material is a special one.  He is inspired by geometry, texture and colours and has the ability to look at a carefully selected stone and visualize the final sculpture.  Solace believes the form always existed within the stone and feels privileged to set it free. Striations and colours in the stone are respected when creating the sculpture.

Solace has been commissioned to sculpt human figures as well as various animals study works. Of particular interest for Solace is to convey loving and committed relationships between couples expressed by the anthropomorphic use of bears.  There is neither a front or back to the couples, which allows the sculpture to be rotated to enjoy various touching perceptions, unique as you are individual.

Solace’s main inspiration for his relational stone carvings has grown from his years of working as an Executive Director at children’s homes and as a Case Manager in a Provincial Treatment Centre for Addictions. These experiences combined with several years as a Palliative Care Volunteer, have helped Solace realize how important relationships are in life.  Solace is also a licensed private pilot and certified scuba diver and has found these experiences to also be a source of inspiration.

Each piece is uniquely sculpted by Solace and hand polished to enhance its beauty. Internationally requested, a sculpture by Solace is a valuable piece of Canada for your art collection.

It is Solace’s hope that a child who may glance upon his sculpture will find hope and comfort knowing love is real, people do care and relationships can be filled with joy and stability.
